Step 2 — Free initial consultation | We arrange an informal call, by zoom or by telephone, to talk through your research question, what you already know, and what you’re hoping to find. |
Step 3 — A clear research plan | A written research plan is provided, with agreed objectives and timescales. Once you are happy to proceed, a retainer deposit secures your project in my schedule. |
Step 4 — Research begins | The research is carried out using a wide range of historical sources, archives, expert knowledge, and specialist methods. |
Step 5 — Your report | After the remaining balance is settled, your professionally written genealogical report is shared with you. |
Research Fees
Bespoke Research is carried out in planned and pre-agreed time blocks charged at £30 per hour (minimum booking of 5 hours)
All potential additional expenses, such as prices for Birth, Marriage and Death records, are explained prior to commencement of all projects; and permission sort from clients prior to all purchases - no surprises!

Additional Research Hours
Sometimes research uncovers more than we expected. New records can open up fresh lines of enquiry that weren’t visible at the start, and it can be helpful to follow these while the evidence is unfolding.If this happens, you always have the option to add extra research hours. We would talk it through first, agree what feels worthwhile to pursue, and make sure you remain completely in control of both the direction of the research and how your budget is used.
