House Histories

There’s something really special about discovering the story behind a house, not just the building itself, but the people who lived there, owned it, worked from it, and were connected to it over time. This is very much a genealogical history of a property, focusing on the individuals and families associated with that address across the years.

This type of research is ideal for anyone who wants to feel more connected to their home, understand its past, or create something meaningful to keep. It also makes a thoughtful and unusual gift for new homeowners, anniversaries, birthdays, or for anyone with a strong connection to a particular place.

Each project centres on tracing former occupants and owners through historical records, building a picture of who they were, how long they lived there, what they did for a living, and how the property may have changed during their time. It brings together house history and family history, telling the story of the property through the lives of the people connected to it.

The final report is written as an engaging narrative and may include supporting material such as historic maps, census records, trade directory entries, newspaper references, and period photographs where available. Selected documents and images can also be reproduced for framing, creating a lasting keepsake that celebrates the home’s past.

Because every property has its own unique paper trail, research is carried out at an hourly rate. There may also be additional costs where relevant, such as archive visits or document copies. If you are planning this as a gift or working to a particular date, it is best to get in touch early so there is plenty of time to build a full and detailed history.

If you would like to explore the genealogical story of a property and the people connected to it, you are very welcome to get in touch by email or through the contact form to talk through what you would like to discover.
