Breakthrough & Bespoke Research
Breakthrough Research
Family history research is never straightforward! Perhaps you have reached a brick wall that refuses to budge, discovered conflicting evidence, or found an ancestor who seems to appear out of nowhere and cannot be identified. You may have inherited years of research and want reassurance that the conclusions are correct, or perhaps there is a family story that you would like investigated properly.
Breakthrough Research is designed for these more challenging genealogical problems. Rather than following a straightforward ancestral line, the focus is on answering a specific question or resolving a particular research problem through detailed analysis of the available evidence.
Examples of research questions include:
• Identifying unknown or elusive ancestors
• Verifying family connections and relationships
• Resolving conflicting evidence
• Investigating family stories and traditions
• Researching illegitimacy, adoption and parentage questions
• Identifying the parents of an ancestor
• Reviewing and verifying existing family tree research
• Researching missing family members or unexplained disappearances
As a qualified professional genealogist, I take an evidence-led approach to every project, carefully evaluating sources, testing theories and drawing conclusions based on the available evidence.
If your research question falls outside these examples, bespoke research can be tailored to your individual requirements. Whether you are interested in a particular ancestor, family branch, occupation, property, military service, historical event, or another aspect of your family history, research can be designed around the questions that matter most to you.
Every family has mysteries waiting to be solved. Whether you're trying to identify an unknown ancestor, verify a family connection, or overcome a long-standing brick wall, professional research can help uncover the answers.
All research projects include:
• Initial research consultation
• Research plan with agreed objectives and timescale
• Professionally written genealogical report explaining the findings in clear language
• Copies or transcriptions of key documents located during the research (subject to copyright restrictions)
• Suggestions for further research where appropriate
• The option of a follow-up call or recorded presentation of the research findings
Reports can also be presented as printed books, timelines, charts, maps, or family history displays if you would like something tangible to keep, share, or gift.
Bespoke Research
While the services and packages outlined on this website cover many common research needs, no two genealogical research projects are exactly the same, with some projects requiring a more tailored approach.
You may have a specific research question, a unique family circumstance, a particular record set you would like explored, or a project that does not fit neatly within a standard package. In these cases, research can be designed around your individual objectives, timescale and budget.
If you would like to discuss a research project, or are unsure which service would be most suitable for your needs, please get in touch. I would be happy to discuss your requirements and how I may be able to help.
Research Fees
Bespoke research is undertaken in planned and pre-agreed time blocks and is charged at £32 per hour, with a minimum booking of 5 hours.
Any anticipated additional costs, such as obtaining birth, marriage or death certificates, archive fees, or other record purchases, will be discussed with you before research begins. No records will be purchased without your prior approval, ensuring there are no unexpected costs.
A range of packages is available depending on your research goals. Please refer to the relevant service section for details and pricing. These have been designed to suit a variety of research goals, from answering a single research question to undertaking a more extensive exploration of your family history.
